Welcome from the Chief Residents

Welcome from the Chief Residents!

As the current chief residents, we would like to thank you for your interest in the University of Missouri-Kansas City Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency program. Founded in 1984, UMKC Med-Peds is a mid sized program that trains six residents per academic year. You will receive dual training at Pediatric and Internal Medicine residencies while working at three separate institutions, each with innovating and advanced subspecialty services. At each of our affiliated hospitals, we are lucky to have extensive Med-Peds trained faculty in multiple subspecialties and primary care.

As residents in a complex and demanding dual program, we learn to become leaders at the forefront of a dynamic professional field. Our program encourages us to find the path that best suits our professional goals, whether through primary care or subspecialty practice. The UMKC Med-Peds program allows for immersion into an extensive subset of electives and academic pursuits including nationally recognized research and international medicine opportunities. Generally, about half of our graduates pursue careers in primary care with the remaining trending towards varied subspecialty or fellowship positions.

Our residents come from a multitude of backgrounds and we pride ourselves on the camaraderie and rapport that develops, not only within PGY classes, but as an entire group. We have a tight-knit family in our Med-Peds program and these are the people who make our residency a fun, exciting, and supportive place to be even during rough months.

The Kansas City area offers a peaceful Midwestern life with typical “big city” amenities. Several residents called Kansas City home prior to starting their training, however, its charm caused many more to call it home after completing their training.

We hope you take the time to get to know us and our program as we feel that we have much to offer!  Please share in our excitement as you explore our website and always feel free to contact us with any questions.

Hope to meet you soon!
